While walking I check out the new CD’s I borrowed from Bar. As I go to a bend, I bump into somebody. All the things I got in my hands fell to the ground. I didn’t look at the man I bump into. I hurriedly pick up my stuff while saying, “I’m sorry. I—” I stopped when I looked at the man I bumped into. He was helping me in my stuff. It was Dave! After getting all my stuff, we both stood up. We became quiet.
A few moments later, I can’t stand his presence in front of me. So I finally broke the ice, “Thank you.” And I started to walk. But before I could make my second step he said, “I’ll pick you up at 9 o’clock tomorrow. Don’t forget” What?! How could he say this after almost two weeks of no communication? How numb is he?
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I mean the one I asked you about almost two weeks ago,” he said as if nothing had happened. My blood started to heat up. He’s so numb! Like a stone!
“Oh come on,” I said in disgust and added, “are you acting like nothing happened? Or are you pretending not to know that I know?”
“Jeda, I don’t understand. Wh—”
“Oh, you don’t understand? Oh come on!” I’m truly angry now.
“Jed’s, I really don’t get what you mean,” he said.
“Oh stop pretending as if you don’t have your girlfriend,” I said.
His brows crossed and said, “Girl—” But before he could finish his word I walk out in anger. My eyes started to water.
“Jeda!” he called out and followed me but I continued walking. We were walking in this wide sidewalk of the school.
“Jeda!” he called out again. I stopped and I’m finally crying now. He walked towards me with my back turned to him.
“Jeda,” he said, “I swear I really don’t know what you are talking about. But, if ever I’ve done something wrong, I’m sorry. And I think you are the one who need to say something to me.”
“What? Me?” I said and face him.
“Yes you,” he said strongly.
“What should I say?” I said and added, “I’m not like you! Liar!” I shouted to him and walk again wiping my tears off my face.
How could he be so numb?! Is he playing games or what?! Damn! How true could this be?! He’s so numb!
While making my way towards the café for lunch, I saw Raven leaning on a tree. I walk towards him to say hello. But before I could get nearer, I noticed he is talking with somebody. I took a step nearer to see who he is talking with. I saw a girl sitting on the bench with her back turned on me. She’s got a long straight hair. But she’s thin. I hide myself in a tree nearest to them.
“So, what are your plans?” Raven asked the girl.
“I don’t have any yet,” the girl replied confidently and asked, “how about you?”
“I plan to get closer than before to Jeda to get her heart,” he answered back. What the hell is going on?! Is there something that I miss? I continue spying them.
“And do you think that would work?” the girl asked.
“Yeah, I guess so. I know her. She easily gets in love to those who are close to her.”
“If that is so, Dave is closer to her than you do which technically means that you are not her real best friend.”
“Oh come on,” he said, “Dave is another case. He’s the crush of hers since grade school. I guess she knows almost everything about that guy.”
“But how can you be so sure?”
“It’s because we are best friends, remember?”
“Whoa! I don’t think you can rely on that. All I want is Dave with me and nothing else. I don’t care if Jeda is hurt or what.”
“You can’t say those in front of me, can you?” Raven said in an angry tone.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I guess I spilled again.”
I can’t stand the things I’m hearing. So I stood up and walked. Good thing they did not notice me.
Damn! How could my very own best friend do that to me?! Was that true? Am I dreaming? Oh please somebody slap me on the face! And tell me that I’m just dreaming! My best friend is a traitor! But I don’t believe he can do that to me. He’s so nice and trustworthy. But, I can’t deny what I heard just now. Oh my!
When I arrive at our favorite bench to meet my friends, only Cecile and Dawn are there.
“Hi Jed’s,” Dawn greeted.
“Hi,” I greeted back weakly.
“What’s the matter?” Dawn asked after noticing my weak mood.
“Did something happen?” Cecile added. I began crying. Dawn held me in her arms. They tried to calm me down.
While crying, I was muttering, “he betrayed me. But I don’t want to believe he did so.”
“Oh, calm it down Jed’s. You will soon forget him,” Cecile said. The other girls arrived.
“What happened?” Janne asked.
“We don’t know,” Cecile answered.
“She is saying that Dave betrayed her and that she does not believe he can do it and stuff like those,” Dawn explained.
“No,” I said still crying and added, “It’s not Dave who betrayed me. It’s… it’s…” I sobbed. I can’t utter his name.
“It’s who?” Rozen asked but I can’t stop crying in disbelief.
“Come on Jed’s. Tell us,” Kristina persuaded.
“Jeda, calm down and tell us who,” Sonny Lou persuaded me too.
“It’s… it’s…” I started.
“Who?” Daphne asked.
“It’s… it’s… It’s Raven!” I shouted. They were shocked.
“How possible can that be?” Joanna asked.
“How sure are you?” Cathy asked.
“How did you know he betrayed you?” Ghealze asked.
“From whom did you know about it?” RIchelle asked.
“I overheard him. He was talking to this unknown girl about me and Dave,” I answered them and told them all the things I’ve overheard. They were all so shocked.
“I thought he’s a good friend,” Vince asked coldly but she did not bother looking at us. She just stands there and read her book. She’s so annoying.
“Yeah, that was what I thought too,” I answered.
She snapped her book close look at us with her brows raised and said, “Well I guess you’ll be one of the victims of thoughts and whereabouts.” The other girls reacted.
“Vince,” Cathy warned.
“What?” she asked back.
“You well know that those words were inappropriate for this scene, right?” Sonny Lou said.
“Vince’s right,” I said.
“What do you mean?” Rozen asked.
“I’m such a fool. I trust somebody so easily that I can be fooled easily too,” I said.
“No,” Dawn said and added, “That’s not true.”
“You trust because you can be trusted,” Cecile said.
“Oh please! Stop praising her. I’m irritated by that,” Vince cut in. My temper roused.
“Vince, can you tell me what your issue is?” I asked.
“You want to know?” she asked back angrily and added, “Why don’t you ask the crown prince.”
“The crown prince?” we all are shocked.
“But, how can the crown prince be the issue here?” Sonny Lou asked. I didn’t wait for her answer. I grabbed my bag and went to the Royal Buffet to see the crown prince.
I asked the receptionist to call for the crown prince. I waited outside. After a few minutes he arrived.
“How may I help you?” he asked.
“What did you tell Vince?” I asked.
“Whoa! What do you mean, miss?” he asked.
“Why is she mad at me?”
“She’s mad at you?”
“Definitely. And we haven’t got any normal talk for almost two weeks.”
“Well,” he looked out to see if there’s somebody ‘round there. He pulled my arm and took me at the garden where no one is there.
“I’ll tell you straightly,” he said and he pulled me to him.
“Let go of me!” I said but he’s too strong.
“I like you,” he said. I was shocked. How can he like me? I’m just an ordinary girl and there are many other girls who are better than me in this school.
“Are you crazy? Let go of me!” I said and he did let go of me.
“Can’t you understand?” he said, “I’m in love with you!”
“But how can you like me? I’m just ordinary. There are still other girls who are better than me. And lastly, I don’t have interest of you,” I said.
“That’s what I like. You’re just ordinary. You’re not like other girls. You do not shout when I’m there. You just take me as any other ordinary student. And you are making me feel that I’m a normal person whenever I see you,” he defended.
“So? How does that connect to Vince?” I asked.
“I ask her to investigate about you,” he explained.
“Investigate me? Are you nuts?”
“Yes, I am. It’s all because of you,” he answered.
“And why did you use Vince? You well know she’s got a big crush on you,” I asked.
“It’s because she’s the only one that I know who is closest to you in our class,” he answered.
“Didn’t you know that you are breaking her heart by doing that?”
“I know. But it’s the only way I know,” he reasoned out.
“Oh come on,” I said, “You are a prince right? So you have many Intel connections around the globe. Why not use them?”
“It’s because I don’t want my mom to ruin my plans if ever they found out,” he said.
“Oh you bastard!” I said and slap him on the face and said, “Next time, do not play other people’s feelings, you understand?” and I walked out.
I went to the café directly. I saw them munching their lunch. Ghealze saw me. She stood up and the other girls followed.
“Jeda, what happened?” she asked.
“I slapped the crown prince,” I said confidenltly.
“What?!” they all reacted except, of course, Vince.
“You’re kidding right?” Vince asked.
“I’m not,” I said and added, “Do you think I’m kidding in this face?”
“How could you do that to him?” Vince asked she wore an angry look.
“Why? Don’t I have the right to do so?” I replied confidently.
“Hello!!! Knock, knock!!! Are you ok?” she asked.
“Hi!!! Who’s there? Yeah, I’m ok,” I answered back smiling.
“He’s a prince! He’s a royalty,” she reasoned out.
“So? I think your crown prince is a player. He’s playing with your emotions, isn’t he?” I said and she nodded and looked down in embarrassment. I then added, “And he asked you to investigate things about me, didn’t he?” She nodded again. I went to her. And I said, “why did you follow him,” in a sympathetic voice.
“I like him very much and you all know that. I thought that if I follow him, he’ll like me,” she explained. She’s crying now. We tried to calm her down.
“Vince, stop crying now. He’s nothing for you,” Cathy said.
“Yeah, she’s right,” Dawn agreed.
“And besides, there are still many princes out there,” Richelle encouraged.
“You don’t deserve a guy like him,” I commented.
“I guess Prince Cyril is just too cruel for you,” Rozen commented.
“And I guess he’s coming our way,” Dawn announced.
“What?!?!” all of us said except for Dawn who saw him first. We all stood up and turn our heads to where Dawn was looking. We saw the Prince walking with pride with his hands on his pocket. All the girls he has gone to pass by all looked at him and giggle in admiration. We were all shocked.
“What the hell is he doing here?” Trish asked when he saw the prince. No one answered. I calm myself down and raise my brows.
“Now, what does he want?” I asked taking a step forward and crossed my arms.
“I… I…” Vince uttered.
“Haven’t been satisfied of my slap?” I asked and walk towards Cyril. I raise my brows as I look at him. He was shocked. He thought for a while and knelt down in front of me. What the hell is he doing? Isn’t he mad?
“Jed’s, I’m sorry,” he said.
“Sorry for what?” I asked him unkindly without looking at him and added, “You didn’t hurt me directly. You hurt Vince. You must give your apology to her.” All the people who are witnessing it were shocked. And they are whispering to each other. Urgh! This would be a rumor tomorrow. And right now, paparazzo is sure to be busy eavesdropping and taking pictures of this event.
“Jed’s, its okay,” Vince said and added, “it doesn’t matter if he says sorry or what. As long as we’re friends, everything is sure to be ok.” We all looked at her.
“Are you sure?” I asked to confirm.
“I won’t let any crown prince ruin our friendship!” she declared. I’m so happy! Vince and I are now okay. We hugged each other.
“’Know what? I missed you,” I said.
“Me too,” Vince answered back. The crown prince was shocked.
“But, how about me?” the prince asked. Vince and I looked at each other. We smiled and laughed.
“I guess you should stand up and forget about us,” Vince said sympathetically. I can say that she still loves the Prince.
The prince stood up and cleared his throat and said, “I would like to say sorry to you both and to your friends for causing much trouble.”
I was about to say a word, but Vince cut in.
“It’s okay. Uhm… it’s my fault anyway,” she said softly. I still can really see she’s still in love with him.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, your highness. But I guess you’ve done much trouble in our friendship,” Joanna said and added, “As the founder of this group, I would like to grant a punishment on you.” We were all shocked.
“As you wish,” the prince accepted Joanna’s offer and asked, “What is your punishment?”
“Well,” Joanna said and talked to the Prince privately. After their conversation, the Prince bid goodbye and walked away. Vince looked at him as he walked away.
“What is your punishment?” Cathy asked.
“Well, just wait and see,” Joanna said.
